Question: |
What should I wear to class? |
|
Answer: |
Our classes are informal. Many students
dress very casually in jeans or shorts, t-shirts, and tennis shoes. Some
ladies find it easier to dance in heels. The answer to this question
is wear whatever you feel comfortable dancing in. |
|
Question: |
Do I need to buy special shoes? |
|
Answer: |
We recommend investing in a pair of
jazz shoes, dance
sneakers, or ballroom shoes for class, however it is not required. Please do
not wear flip flops or open-back shoes, as they are very difficult to
dance in. You can also purchase dance shoes in class or online from
our
Caliente Dance Shoes store.

|
Question: |
Are the students all young people? |
|
Answer: |
Our students range from children
as young as 10 to adults in their 60s and older. We
welcome students of all ages.
|
|
Question: |
Are
there any discounts? |
|
Answer: |
Yes, we offer 2 different packages to save you money! You can buy 5
classes for $45 (avg. $9 per class), or save $20 by buying 10 classes for
$80 (avg. $8 per class). Please note that packages are only valid for our
Monday/Wednesday class and are not transferable.
|
|
Question: |
What

|
Answer: |

Cash, personal checks, and credit/debit cards.
Friday: Cash or personal
checks only
Sunday: Cash or personal
checks only
You can also

using a credit card or electronic bank transfer in our online

|
Question: |
Do I have to register or make a reservation before I come to class? |
|
Answer: |
Nope, you can just show up. And bring your friends!
|
|
Question: |
Do I have to start on a
certain date, or can I start any time? |
|
Answer: |
Our classes are structured
so that you can start at any time, rather than having to
wait for a new course to begin. We break up into
groups according to level, so we teach every level each class night.
That way, if you miss classes here and there, you can just pick up right
where you left off. |
|
Question: |
What do I get for referring my friends? |
|
Answer: |
We have a fantastic Student
Referral Reward Program! Every new student you refer to Salsa Caliente
will earn you a $2 credit that you can use toward classes or merchandise! In
order to receive credit, the new student must write your name on his/her
registration form (only applies to first-time students that have never taken
a class with us before).
|
|
Question: |
Do I need a partner? |
|
Answer: |
No.
We structure our classes so that you dance with everyone, rather
than just one person. This makes the class fun and sociable, plus it makes
you a more versatile leader or follower.
|
|
Question: |
How long will it take me to learn? |
|
Answer: |
It depends on how often you come to class and practice.
The average person attending class twice a week should be dancing proficiently
within four to eight weeks depending on their natural ability and dance background.
|
|
Question: |
How quickly can I advance? |
|
Answer: |
For our Mon./Wed. class, the time required to complete each level varies according to the student’s
natural ability, previous dance experience, and amount of time spent practicing.
Some levels will take longer to complete than others. Once you have learned all of the
turns in a level and can execute them properly to the beat of the music, you
will be promoted to the next level. You won't have to wait for other
people if you're a fast learner, and you won't be holding up your class if you
need more time.
|
|
Question: |
What happens if I miss class? |
|
Answer: |
For our Mon./Wed. classes, it's no problem. You just pick up at the level where you left off.
There will always be a class at your level. If you have been gone for an
extended period, you may want to go back and review to refresh your memory.
For classes that are progressive courses, you should try to avoid missing any
classes so you don't get behind. If you must be absent, you can take a
private lesson to catch up, or you may be able to take a class at another
location to learn what you missed. Your instructor can advise you
according to your situation.

Question: |
If I already know how to dance salsa, do I still have to start in beginners? |
|
Answer: |
You don't have to start in beginners if you already have
experience dancing NY-style salsa. We can evaluate you
before your first class to determine which level you belong in. For
people who dance salsa but have never taken classes before ("street"
dancers) or only
have experience with casino-rueda style, you should start at the
beginner 1 level. |
|
Question: |
Is there a program or curriculum of turns? |
|
Answer: |
Yes, we have a syllabus for our salsa classes. Copies of the syllabus are available in every
class.
|
|
Question: |
Do I have to buy a package or get involved in
contracts? |
|
Answer: |
No.
We do offer packages of classes (Mon./Wed. class only) at a discount (5 classes for $45, or 10 classes for $80), but you can
always pay-as-you-go.
